My Blues Roots
It’s been a rough couple of weeks. There have been lots of stressful things going on. This morning, I was in a pretty bad mood as I was making an unnecessary 200 mile road trip. I put a Muddy Waters cd in the player and in about 3 minutes I was starting to feel better. In essence, I was getting back to my blues roots. I played one blues cd after another and as I drove, my mood improved. Now, I’m not saying I am in a wonderful mood this afternoon but the gloom and doom of this morning is gone.
The Sunflower River Blues Festival: Part 1
I have been fortunate enough to have been able to attend the Sunflower River Blues Festival twice. I would have gone many more times but the time of the festival coincides with some manditory raining that I needed to attend in New Hampshire. This festival is in Clarksdale, Misissippi. Admission is free and the attendees are a mix of black and white. I have never deen any type of trouble in Clarksdale.
The History of Blues Music
Before the blues came along, there was little solo music in the African-American culture. With the emergence of the solo singer and instrumentalist, the lyrics became more individualized and the meaning of the music began to take on a more emotional tone.
