How much music theory knowledge is necessary to study medieval music?
I’m enrolled for a course called History of Medieval Music. I’ve had AP theory in high school, but quite a few of the people in the class are music majors who have had advanced theory. Is medieval music complicated stuff or what?
I agree with Delicio – the interwoven lines of medieval music are often functioning on a level that one does not appreciate without a decent background.
What are some good classic rock with some blues and country influence bands?
Like but not limited too Creedence Clearwater Revival Aerosmith and ZZ top. I also like Black Stone Cherry and Shinedown. Specific songs would be nice too.
Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The Allman Brothers.
The Marshall Tucker Band,
Missouri.
Steve Miller Band.
Any other Southern classic rock band is bound to have some country influenced songs, but with some killer guitar solos, as well. :3
what to wear to the blues festival sunday at the township?
If it’s cold, wear a jacket.
Are there any good Christian Blues artists?
I’m really interested in blues and blues-rock, but at the same time, I like Christian music. I have tryed searching Google and other websites, but nothing shows up. Can anyone list a few bands? Please?
There are actually many; better to look from Christian search engines. One of the most famous is (Glen Kaiser’s) ‘The Ressurrection Blues Band’ (aka The Rez Band). They started in ’72, originally had a Led Zeppelin/Jefferson Airplane sound. Check their work with Ty Tabor (of King’s X) on album ‘Lament’ (’95)./ More are the Reverend Blues Band/ The Robert Randolf Family Band/ Debbie Walton/ King Marvin ("One of the world’s finest Christian Blues guitarists.")/ Some of my favorite original ‘Holy Blues’ artists are: Brother George And His Santified Singers, Josh White, Son House, Reverend Gary Davis, Boyd Rivers, Reverend Leon Pinson, Robert Wilkins
What is the best website to give away blues tickets on?
I have two VIP tickets to the 20th Annual Battle of the Blues Harps at the Golden Sails Hotel Crystal Ballroom tonight Wednesday, November 26th at 7:00 pm. I can’t go so I’ll give them to a good home.
Craigslist for sure!
Help writing album reviews?
I have been wanting to get started writing album reviews for a while. The problem is that whenever I start I seem to find that I lack the words to describe exactly what is happening in an album. Whether it be a solo, certain type of chord, guitar picking, ect. I just cannot seem to find the words to describe some things and it makes me lose confidence in my review. Is there a place online that can help me learn some of these things and how to be a better album reviewer?
The key to writing good album reviews? Read, read and read some more. Try to diversify your reading, don’t limit it to just music magazines – this way your vocabulary will grow. It’s not necessary to know the type of chord or guitar picking unless you’re writing for a specialist guitar magazine. It’s an advantage, yes, but not a necessity, and chances are your readers will be interesting in knowing your opinion of the album – not stating facts like the chord progressions. Make a few comparisons, if you feel it’s needed, describe if any of the tracks evoke any emotion or specific thoughts, and always explain why.

“Going up the Country” – Canned Heat / WOODSTOCK ’69
Enjoy this GREAT SONG from Woodstock era !
PEACE&LOVE !!!
Lyrics :
-I’m going up the country, babe don’t you wanna go
-I’m going up the country, babe don’t you wanna go
-I’m going to some place where I’ve never been before
-I’m going, I’m going where the water tastes like wine
-Well I’m going where the water tastes like wine
-We can jump in the water, stay drunk all the time
-I’m gonna leave this city, got to get away
-I’m gonna leave this city, got to get away
-All this fussing and fighting, man, you know I sure can’t stay
-Now baby, pack your leaving trunk, you know we’ve got to leave today
-Just exactly where we’re going I cannot say, but
-We might even leave the USA
-’Cause there’s a brand new game that I want to play
-No use of you running, or screaming and crying
-’Cause you’ve got a home as long as I’ve got mine
btw I’ve never made this video

Texas blues legend Sam Lightnin’ Hopkins – Where Lightnin’ Strikes
Houston-based Fast Cut Films, in association with Sunset Productions, is working on a documentary feature film, “Where Lightnin’ Strikes,” about the life and times of Houston blues legend Sam “Lightnin’” Hopkins (1912-1982). His music inspired generations around the world from the Texas Gulf Coast, Mississippi delta to the British invasion. The enduring musical journey of Sam Lightnin’ Hopkins began on a cotton farm in Centerville,Texas in 1912. He was drawn to the music he heard played by an older brother. After meeting up with Dallas bluesman Blind Lemon Jefferson, Sam left the hardscrabble life of the Texas cotton fields, determined to play his way to better circumstances.
Possessing a sharp wit and a unique ability for endless improvisation, Lightnin became a master storyteller. He was able to convey profound truths about the human condition via poetic imagery. The “Po’ Lightnin” that inhabited his tales of struggle and misery became the “Everyman” that black audiences identified with and white audiences flocked to performances to experience.Whether playing on a street corner on Dowling Street or at Carnegie Hall his style defined Texas blues. He sounded like no one else yet influenced every one. His unique musical style influenced generations of blues, rock, country and soul musicians as well as filmmakers, writers and painters. Over the course of his 60-year career, Lightnin’ Hopkins recorded more music than any other blues artist. His discography includes more than 100 albums for more than twenty different recording labels. He made Houston his home in the 1940s. In 1982, his funeral drew more than 4,000 devoted fans and musicians to the city to celebrate and honor him.
The film, currently in production, includes on-camera interviews with family members, band members, historians, eyewitnesses and musicians influenced by Lightnin’s work. Additionally the film will explore Lightnin’s influence on artists outside of music including painters, sculptors and writers. These interviews will be combined with archival photographs, newsreels, and performance footage.
