There is no-denying that the experiences of African slaves during their captivity and after their liberation became the core of blues music. Alan Governar – author of the book Texas Blues, described the blues as an extremely personal type of music. Roots of the blues subgenres can be traced to regions where there were slaves seeking temporary relief through music. It is therefore not surprising that these subgenres (Delta Blues, Texas Blues, Piedmont Blues) emerged as contemporaries in several parts of the United States.

I would love to find a fun soulful blues song to play and sing along with. THAAANKS.

Leadbelly’s "Midnight Special" is one my friends and I used to play and sing along to out in the parks. Everyone takes a turn on a verse, then sings the chorus.

Annie joins me here on “Custard Pie” by Blind Boy Fuller (Vocalion, Memphis 1939). Originally recorded as “I want some of your Pie” in 1939, this is another great example of Piedmont style blues, which is both “uptown” and “raggy”. We’re capoed up on the 1st fret in standard tuning.
All references in the breakdown are made relative to the capo. The song is in the key of E and starts off with a slide up to a barred E chord with the root E on top (12 frets up from the capo). Video two contains the breaks; the parts that are played beneath the harmonica part. These are a series of single line bass riffs followed by the chords from the original progression.

November 2nd 2007 EG Kight headlined the Friday night line up at the National Women in Blues Festival in Wilmington NC. When she was ready to wind it down for the night she…just like a Georgia Song Bird sang out to and called a few ladies on stage.

These are the final moments of the night. The video gets a little crazy at one point. The video person tried to follow from one lady to another and finally pulled back and just watched them go.

On stage with EG Kight…Robin Rogers, who came with the Robin Rogers Trio…Big Red of Big Red and the Soul Benders…Michele of Michele and the Midnight Blues…and Laura Chavez who came with Lara Price as a duo.

You can find all of these artists web site links in one place:
